John has been a member of UFCW since 1981 when he started working at Carnation foods (now McCain foods ) in Carberry. After UFCW 832 merged with UFCW 798, John spent four years as a shop steward, and 12 more as chief steward. He has served on the UFCW 832 advisory board for 15 years, as well as being on the negotiations committee for five rounds of bargaining at McCain’s. John has retired from Prairie Mountain Health, where he was a casual / volunteer paramedic for 22 years. He is also retired from McCain foods after 40 years, where he was a wastewater treatment operator, and he continues to serve on the town council of Carberry, serving as deputy mayor. He states his main motivation for becoming a service representative is service to others.
