UFCW 832 members ratify new agreement with North of 53 Co-op

Workers at North of 53 Consumers Co-operative Ltd. represented by UFCW Local 832 voted yes by 85% to their new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

The new collective agreement brings a 1.5% wage increase in each year of the collective agreement and includes signing bonuses, plus retro pay back to January 3, 2021. Members will also get to enjoy increases to relieving rates, night-shift premiums, and Sunday premiums.

Other improvements include; a more extended notice in the event of a layoff, better bereavement leave, maternity leave, and flexibility in the vacation language. In addition, members at North of 53 have always enjoyed an employee-purchase discount plan, and we’re proud to announce that through bargaining, it was not only improved but it was also added to the CBA, protecting it for the future.

“I’m really proud of our bargaining committee for working hard towards this great new agreement,” said Union Negotiator Joe Carreiro. “This new agreement will help to address many of the concerns the members had.”

North of 53 Consumers Co-operative Ltd. is a grocery in Flin Flon. UFCW represents 96 members who are the sales/service clerks, meat-cutters, bakery, deli, produce and grocery clerks that serve the customers on a day to day basis.
