UFCW Local 832 members from Sobeys Extra ratified an updated agreement on July 28, 2021 that will see all employees benefit from retroactive pay or a signing bonus.
The new agreement, which was re-opened for negotiations in the middle of its 10-year term, brings forward benefits for UFCW members in the five years remaining:
- Top-of-scale employees: $0.30 annual wage increases for the next three years and $0.40 annual increases for the final two years of the agreement. Plus, retro back pay to December 2020.
- All other employees: signing bonus based on average weekly hours.
- Significant language cleanup.
“This was a tough round of negotiations but we came through with a financial boost for all members at Sobeys Extra,” says Joe Carreiro, Union Negotiator.
Sobeys Extra is a grocery supermarket chain offering specialty departments, such as an in-store chef and nutritionist as well as a cheese ambassador for a range of cheeses. Our members are responsible for all aspects of the grocery business, including ordering, customer service, cashing and stocking shelves.
