“Although we started bargaining in a productive way, the employer failed to acknowledge the direction of the new government funding, which ultimately led us to an impasse on all monetary items. The parties still maintain a positive relationship, but a third party was necessary to get the final outcome,” said Phil Kraychuk, UFCW Negotiator. “Our bargaining committee worked extremely hard on this, and they were fantastic representatives to have on the committee.”

The new CBA brings an immediate large wage increase for all members.

The new CBA also made large gains in the areas of seniority, hours of work, general holidays, vacation time and sick time.

The new CBA expires in October of 2024, so we will be back at the bargaining table with the employer again next year to push for more improvements.

The 200 UFCW members working at CBI Health in Brandon include Direct Support Professionals and Team Leads who support individuals living with disabilities or illnesses, which can be related to cognitive challenges, physical health or mental health.
