UFCW Local 832 celebrates Beatrice Bruske’s presidential win at the virtual Canadian Labour Congress convention

June 18, 2021 –  The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 832 congratulates Beatrice Bruske who was elected President of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). Bea, along with her running teammates Siobhan Vipond and Lily Chang were sworn into their new positions at the CLC convention earlier today.

“We’re confident that Canada’s labour movement is in great hands with Bea and her team in the lead,” says UFCW Local 832 President Jeff Traeger. “Bea has the passion and know-how to build on the CLC’s successes.”

Bea has been active with Local 832 for over thirty years, serving as a full-time staff member since 1994, most recently as Secretary-Treasurer. In her new role as CLC president, she’ll be leading Canada’s largest labour organization and representing more than three million workers across the country.

Following Bea’s win and subsequent resignation from her position at UFCW Local 832, president Jeff Traeger held a meeting with the executive board who unanimously elected Marie Buchan into the role of Secretary-Treasurer.

“Marie has been an integral part of UFCW 832’s leadership team for many years. I’m confident she has the skillset and determination to excel in this role, and very much look forward to working with her to make Local 832 the best it can be,” says President Traeger.

Marie has worked at UFCW Local 832 full-time since 2003 in a variety of roles including Servicing Representative, Director of Servicing, Negotiator and most recently Director of Operations. She has been serving as UFCW 832’s interim Secretary-Treasurer since Bea took a leave of absence in April to pursue her CLC campaign.

“I appreciate the trust and support our executive board, President Traeger and the members have placed with me through all these years,” says Marie Buchan. “I’m excited and ready for this new challenge and for the opportunity to serve our members in this new capacity.”

UFCW Local 832 represents over 19,000 workers in food production, food distribution warehousing, grocery retail, hospitality, security, personal care, and assisted living.
