This afternoon the Union was made aware that Stella’s has put the Sherbrook location up for sale. The Union nor any of it’s members have been notified of a permanent closure.
“This is shameful and cowardly of Stella’s ownership to do this,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “All these workers ever wanted was a fair schedule and a collective voice to make improvements at work, so their home lives could better complement their work lives. This employer has been nothing but vindictive towards these workers ever since they unionized.”
The Union will maintain its commitment to offer strike pay until the end of the year while we assist our members in looking for work and opportunities elsewhere.
The Union acknowledges that restaurants are going through an incredibly difficult time under this pandemic, but no Manitoban should support worker intimidation. UFCW Local 832 is calling for a permanent boycott of all Stella’s locations.
