UFCW 832 Calls on MB Government to Increase Protections for Workers

Today, UFCW 832 sent a letter to the Premier of Manitoba, the Minister of Economic Development and Training, the Leader of the Official Opposition, and the Leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party, calling for emergency actions and considerations for workers in food production, food distribution warehousing, grocery stores, security, personal care, and assisted living workers.

“These workers are on the frontline of the pandemic we’re facing right now,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “While many other workers are being asked to work from home, or are being laid off, the workers in these areas are facing an incredible increase in demand and responsibility.”

The letter pushes for increased protections for workers during this time, and to give workers easier access to compensation if they get sick due to exposure at work.
