Manitoba Security Guards facing a surprise wage-freeze by Pallister Government

Manitoba security guards won’t be getting the pay increase they were expecting on October 1. Instead, the Pallister Government is in the middle of pausing legislation that governs Manitoba’s security guards minimum wages — and may be planning to revoke it entirely.

UFCW is holding a rally at the Legislative Building on October 24, 2017 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm and will be encouraging all security guards union and non-union to attend.


Tentative Deal Secured at G4S

September 23, 2016

The union bargaining committee—comprised of Tim Burgess, Donna Curtis Tomiuk and negotiator Blake Crothers—is pleased to inform you that a tentative agreement has been reached with G4S Secure Solutions.

As such, the union has scheduled ratification votes for October 18 and 21. The guards will receive a summary of negotiations and the committee will provide full details of the settlement at the meeting prior to the vote. 


More Bargaining for G4S

August 31, 2016

The negotiating committees for G4S Secure Solutions met on August 23 to 25. During these meetings, the parties exchanged proposals and were able to deal with all of the non-monetary items and began discussing some of the monetary proposals.

Bargaining between the union and the company will continue on September 20 and 21. Union negotiator Blake Crothers is spearheading these negotiations for the union. He will update the guards after the September 21 meeting.


Union Preps for G4S Upcoming Negotiations

July 22, 2016

The existing G4S Secure Solutions collective bargaining agreement expires on September 30, 2016. The union has already begun to prepare for negotiations and, as part of this preparation, has scheduled unit meetings for August 15 and 16. This will give the security guards working at G4S an opportunity to voice their ideas on what changes and improvements they would like to see in their new contract.

Blake Crothers, union negotiator for UFCW Local 832, will head up these negotiations.


Ratification Vote Scheduled for G4S Members

February 11, 2015

The bargaining committees for G4S have reached a tentative deal. Therefore, the union has scheduled aratification vote for Thursday, March 5, at the union office. At the meeting a summary of negotiations and the details of the settlement, which is being recommended by the negotiations committee (union negotiator Martin Trudel, Earl Magee and Tim Burgess), will be reviewed with the membership prior to the vote.


G4S Security and Parking Authority negotiations nearing deal

January 20, 2015

The union negotiating committee comprised of Tim Burgess, Henning Peterson, Earl MaGee and UFCW Local 832 negotiatior Martin Trudel are still in the process of negotiating the final outstanding monetary proposals with the employer.

Once the committee has reached a tentative agreement you will be informed of a date & time where you will have the opportunity to review the proposed contract and vote on it accordingly.


Negotiations Move Along at G4S

October 2, 2014

The union negotiating committee comprised of Tim Burgess, Henning Peterson, Earl MaGee and lead negotiator Martin Trudel, met with the G4S bargaining committee on September 29 and 30.
Proposals presented dealt with changes to the existing contract language, benefits and wages. At the end of the two days, the parties had agreed on all the non-monetary as well as the majority of the monetary issues.
The union will continue to update the security guards from G4S as negotiations move along towards a new deal.


UFCW Local 832 Applauds Provincial Government on New Security Guard Legislation

July 8, 2014

UFCW Local 832 President Jeff Traeger is pleased to hear the new changes for security guards in the province.
“We have been working with the province along with employers to address issues that this industry faces. Better pay and better training will go a long way for our members,” stated Traeger.

Local 832 represents nearly 1,000 security guards throughout the province.


G4S Security members now have their first contract

Members vote 63% in favour of new deal. It’s been a long process but the UFCW Local 832 members working for G4S Security now have their first collective agreement. In May 2009 the union was the certified bargaining agent for the members and the union started negotiations. Realizing quickly that the company was dragging their feet, the union applied for a conciliation officer in September.
