Co-op Proposes Concessions - Negotiations Continue May 28

RE:  Co-op Proposes Concessions - Negotiations Continue May 28 to May 31, 2019 – Conciliation Officer Appointed

On March 19 to 22, 2019, we met with the Co-operative to begin negotiations.  The Co-operative is represented by Tom Zabel, Labour Relations Manager from FCL Saskatoon, Lola Ayotunde, Labour Relations Advisor from FCL, Patti Eilers, Board of Directors, Lorne Eiffert, Nadia Spikula, Katelyn Wozny and Lori Hagenson-Sanden.  We had good discussions and we have agreed to some non-monetary items.

Unfortunately, the Co-op has proposed several concessions that could take away or reduce some of the benefits and compensation that you currently have.  Some examples they have proposed are: deletion of Night Shopping premium, Sunday premiums, Lumberyard premium, Long Service premium, retroactive pay, Employee Purchase Discount Bonus; and the addition of more non-union positions such as assistant manager(s), Human Resources Manager, Agro Equipment Manager, Maintenance Person, Home Center Sales Consultant as well as having Driver/Sales and others work four (4) ten (10) hour days.

Your Union bargaining committee has no intention of agreeing to these concessions.  We are here to negotiate improvements to the Collective Agreement, not make it worse for you and your families.

On March 25, the Union applied for conciliation and the provincial government has appointed a Conciliation Officer to assist the parties in reaching an agreement.

Our next set of negotiations dates are May 28 to May 31, 2019.  We will send a further update at that time.
