UFCW 832 – Once Again – Calls for Presumptive Coverage for Workers on the Frontlines

Earlier today, President Jeff Traeger sent a letter to the CEO of Workers Compensation of Manitoba (WCB), the Finance Minister and the Chairperson of the WCB Board of Directors. The letter once again calls for Presumptive Coverage for frontline workers who become ill at work due to Covid-19.

“WCB needs to trust workers,” said Jeff Traeger, president of UFCW Local 832. “Our members are in daily contact with large numbers of co-workers and customers, and they shouldn’t have to prove to WCB that they developed symptoms from their contact at work.”

Presumptive Coverage means workers would not have to prove to WCB that they became ill or developed their symptoms of Covid-19 from their place of work.

All workers deserve to know that there are extra precautions being taken to keep them and their families safe and that if they become ill, WCB’s help will be there for them.

UFCW Local 832 represents over 18,000 members working in food production, food distribution warehousing, grocery retail, hospitality, security, personal care, and assisted living.
