Town of Virden members secure wage increases in newly ratified agreement

After two long days of bargaining, UFCW 832 members from the Town of Virden ratified a four-year collective bargaining agreement on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

Other agreement highlights include:

  • Wage increase of 8.5% over four years, including retroactive pay
  • Increases to each level of long-service wages by $0.25/hour
  • Increase on-call premium, retirement bonus, RRSP and boot allowance
  • Language cleanup

“This bargaining committee put in long hours to secure this deal,” says Phil Kraychuk, Union Negotiator. “The end result is an agreement with much-deserved wage increases for them and their co-workers.”

The Town of Virden is located on Highway #1 and #83. Our members are employed in public works and at the recreation facility. In public works, our members look after the water and garbage, cut grass, plant flowers and grade roads. In the recreational centre they maintain the ice at the skating rink, the outdoor pool and all town parks.
