Summer update for Loblaw bargaining

A transcription of Marie Buchan’s video update can be read below.

Hi, everyone.

My name’s Marie Buchan. I’m your Secretary-Treasurer for UFCW Local 832. I hope you’re all having an opportunity to enjoy this wonderful Manitoba summer. I know that myself, and Jeff Traeger, your president and lead negotiator, are all taking some time off to rest and get ourselves ready for the next round of Loblaw bargaining.

We are going to be starting our crunch time in the last part of our Loblaw bargaining at the end of August. We have a week at the end of August. Then we’re going to have three weeks in September. Our goal is, by the end of that round of bargaining on September 28, that we can bring a deal that our members are able to ratify.

If you move or change your address, please make sure you notify us and make sure your emails current because that’s important. That’s how a lot of information is going to get to all of our members during that crunch time.

We want to make sure that bargaining is still on everyone’s mind. So what we’d like you to do is take some time. Over the next few weeks, there’s going to be a series of four videos that are going to be introduced on this website that are going to talk about the key issues that our members brought forward as kind of the big proposal items that we need to look at at the bargaining table. Members of our bargaining committee, along with our staff, are talking about these issues.

If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to reach out to your full-time union rep, your shop steward or your bargaining committee member. Or contact myself or Jeff. We’d be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Remember that the end of August is going to start our key time in bargaining. Our crunch time, as we like to call it, and make sure that you’re watching the website, checking your emails and watching for updates at the store.

Thanks, everyone, and have a great day.

Marie Buchan
