Members at Life’s Journey Vote YES to New 15-Month Deal

UFCW 832 members for both the office and frontline collective agreements finished an online voting session yesterday (Wednesday, May 15, 2024) where both bargaining units voted yes to their new collective bargaining agreements (CBA).

“Our bargaining committee did a great job of working together to make the gains we did. This great deal is a result of their hard work,” said Phil Kraychuk, negotiator. “We look forward to seeing how the funding rolls out over the next year to prepare for next year’s bargaining.”

A summary of resolved items in the CBA are: 

FRONT LINE 

  • 15 month CBA 
  • $.50 on wages
  • New eight-week level of vacation 
  • General housekeeping 
  • Carryover vacation and optional vacation payout 
  • Retro pay to January 1, 2024 

OFFICE 

  • 15 month CBA 
  • $.75 on wages
  • A new seven-year wage progression .40¢ above the old top rate
  • Large adjustment for reception
  • Reception vacation now matched to the rest of the CBA 
  • New eight-week level of vacation 
  • General housekeeping 
  • Carry-over vacation 
  • Retro pay to January 1, 2024

UFCW Local 832 represents over 800 members at Life’s Journey. The workplace is split between two collective agreements: the office staff and the frontline workers.  The office looks after the case management for clients, while the frontline workers provide disability services through residential outreach, cultural supports, clinical resources, addictions and wellness programming and so much more.
