Confirmed case of Covid-19 at Maple Leaf in Brandon

Over the long weekend, Maple Leaf informed the Union that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 among a UFCW 832 member working at the plant.

“We hope for a speedy recovery for the Maple Leaf member,” stated Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “This appears to be a contained event, but we will be watching this very closely.”

There are ongoing plans being made for the safety of everyone, and members are being informed as they go to work, but what we know so far:

  • Maple Leaf was informed over the long weekend and informed the Union shortly after.
  • Two separate deep cleans have taken place over the weekend in the area where the member was working.
  • Maple Leaf has been in contact with the public health department to follow their advice on how to proceed.
  • All workers who had been in contact with the worker who had been confirmed positive have been sent home to self-isolate for 14 days.

At this time, the Union is asking everyone to stay calm and make sure we are all listening to public health advice at this time. Your Union is in constant communication with Maple Leaf to ensure that your safety is the #1 priority.
