On November 22, 2021, UFCW Local 832 members from Fort La Bosse School Division ratified two new contracts after waiting over four years due to continued bargaining interference from the Manitoba PC leadership.
This division’s support staff have been without a contract since July 1, 2017 due to delays caused by Bill 28, the PC government’s wage freeze law that is still before the courts.
In order to finalize this deal, the Fort La Bosse School Division made a bold move in providing much-deserved wage increases to their employees which went against provincial mandates.
The new six-year contracts include retroactive pay dating back to July 2017. They also include wage increases of 7% over five years, plus a cost-of-living adjustment in year five that will be determined in January 2022.
“Our members at Fort La Bosse have waited a very long time to be recognized for their hard work before and during this pandemic,” says Jeff Traeger, UFCW 832 president. “We are thrilled to secure these wins for our members without having to get a mandate, which is what other school divisions have had to do.”
Fort La Bosse School Division serves a large geographical region made up of approximately 1,400 students and 10 schools in southwest rural Manitoba. UFCW 832 represents approximately 130 members through two separate contracts for educational assistants and bus drivers, custodians, maintenance and admin staff.
UFCW Local 832 represents over 19,000 Manitoban workers in food production, food distribution, warehousing, grocery retail, hospitality, security, personal care and assisted living.
