Seine River Bus Drivers Ratify First Agreement as UFCW 832 members

Monday, July 29, 2024 – Bus Drivers and monitors working at Seine River School Division voted yes to accept their first collective agreement as UFCW Local 832 members.

In July 2023, the drivers and monitors had a worker’s association, but after concerns came up that the association wasn’t able to resolve, the workers organized and joined UFCW Local 832. Bargaining was a bumpy road in the beginning. In April, members voted overwhelmingly to give their bargaining committee a strike mandate; in May, they voted against the first offer.

“The credit for this great first agreement goes to the hard work and dedication that our bargaining committee brought to the table,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “They landed a good deal that they can be proud of.”

The new four-year collective bargaining agreement (CBA) includes increases to many aspects of the wage structure, including increases to the hourly pay, premiums and allowance.

The roughly 90 bus drivers and monitors working for Seine River School Division are joining 19,000 Manitoban workers at UFCW Local 832 in food production, food distribution, warehousing, hospitality, security, personal care, assisted living, grocery retail and cannabis retail.
