If you haven’t signed a card yet, you’re likely asking yourself, why would I join a union?
We recently ratified the first Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Cluster-Housing workers from New Directions. Here are a few of the items that your colleagues gained through collective bargaining for their first CBA:
- A sunset clause, dropping disciplines from your file after two years.
- An increased cell phone allowance.
- Banking of statutory holidays.
- Excellent language on bereavement leave
- Strong health and safety language.
- Strong seniority language.
- Increased part-time vacation.
- Job Security.
When it comes to a CBA, nothing is guaranteed and every single one is different, but this list shows what can be bargained into YOUR first CBA with your employer!
If you’re still not sure…
If you join a union, once bargaining is finished, you will have a legal contract that protects your wages, benefits and working conditions, and they can’t be changed without the workers being part of the discussion! If there is something missing from the list of items above, you can propose it during bargaining! |
