Carman Co-op Ratification Vote Scheduled for June 4, 2017
After four days of bargaining, the negotiating committees reached a tentative agreement for the union members at Carman Co-op. The union bargaining committee is unanimously recommending acceptance of this new deal. Accordingly, the union has scheduled a ratification meeting so the members can vote on the tentative agreement.
Carman Co-op members should watch their mail for the meeting notice or go to the union’s calendar at www.ufcw832.com.
Carmen Co-op Proposes Concessions
The union and the company met on March 22 and 23 begin negotiations. The parties had discussions and were able to agree on some of the non-monetary items.
Unfortunately, the Co-op has proposed several concessions that could take away or reduce some of the benefits and compensations that the members currently have including such things as deleting some of the premiums—night shopping, night shift, and Sunday. The union bargaining committee has no intentions of agreeing to these concessions.
Carman Co-op Negotiations Begin March 22
Union negotiator Sonia Taylor, along with Carman Co-op members Susan Worms and Jacqueline Labossiere, were originally scheduled to meet with the Co-op on November 29 to commence negotiations for the renewal of the collective agreement. Unfortunately, the Co-op had to cancel this date due to staff changes in Saskatoon. The company is now ready to start the bargaining proces and the parties will meet on March 22 and 23. The union is hoping to make significant progress at these meetings, and will update the members as to the status of their negotiations after the March 23 meeting.
Co-op Gas Bar Negotiations Postponed
As previously reported, the Red River Co-op and the Carman Co-op gas bars were to commence negotiations for the renewal of a new collective agreement at the end of November. Unfortunately, the Co-op had to cancel these due to staff changes in Saskatoon. As soon as union negotiator Sonia Taylor gets new dates set, she will send an update for the members from the Red River Co-op and Carman Co-op gas bars.
Although both of the collective agreements has expired, they remain in place until a new agreement is negotiated and ratified by the members.
Carman Co-op Negotiations Commence November 29
The union and the Co-op will commence negotiations on November 29 for a new collective agreement for the members working at Carman Co-op. At that first meeting, the union negotiating committee, spearheaded by negotiator Sonia Taylor, will exchange proposals with the co-operative.
