Unanimous Vote in Favour of New 5-Year Deal

UFCW Local 832 members working at Gate Gourmet voted yes on a new five-year collective agreement.

During the life of the agreement, the members will see their wages increase by 10.25 per cent. Other monetary increases include: dental plan contributions, RRSP contributions, shoe allowance, and added coverage to existing health and welfare benefits.

“This is a good agreement,” stated head negotiator Martin Trudel. “We didn’t give the company any concessions and improved language in other areas of the agreement.”

Gate Gourmet Bargaining to Begin August 9

The union bargaining committee comprised of head negotiator Martin Trudel and members Mike Audette, Kasmir Kociolek will begin bargaining with Gate Gourmet on August 9, 10 and 11.

‎During this first round of negotiations, bargaining, the parties will exchange their proposals on what improvements and/or changes they would like to see in the new collective agreement. The list of the union’s proposals was comprised by the suggestions brought forward by the members at the proposal meetings held in May.

Negotiations Ongoing at Gate Gourmet

The union negotiating committee comprised of Bob Cowan and negotiator Martin Trudel met with the company on September 17 and 18.

During these bargaining days, all the non-monetary proposals were resolved as a result of both parties being able to find solutions that are mutually beneficial. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts and limited availability on both sides, the next round of bargaining is set for November 6 and 7. The committees plan to address all the monetary proposals at that time.
