Vista Park Lodge Members give 100% Strike Mandate

Members of UFCW Local 832 working at Vista Park Lodge conducted a strike vote on January 9, 2020. The members voted 100% in favour of a strike mandate.

The Bargaining Committee will go back to the table with this mandate and push for a fair deal from the employer.

The collective agreement expired on March 31, 2019. The current contract will remain in effect until a strike or lockout occurs, or until a new collective agreement has been ratified.


Vista Park Lodge Ratify Four-Year Deal

The members at Vista Park Lodge ratified a new four-year deal by 78%. The deal is has wage increases in each year of the agreement of 1.25% in year one retro active to April 2015. 1.25 % in 2016 , 1.5% in both 2017 and 2018. Members will also see increases to premiums and a new long service bonus.


Conciliation Date Set for Vista Park Negotiations

The union and the employer jointly applied to the Minister of Labour to have a government-appointed conciliation officer assist with the Vista Park Lodge negotiations. The conciliator’s role will be to aide the parties in reaching a new collective agreement. While a conciliator officer is not able to force either party to agree to anything, they can be instrumental in moving the process forward.


Strike Vote Set for November 4 for Vista Park Lodge

On October 26, the union negotiating committee continued negotiations with the Vista Park Lodge bargaining committee.At that meeting, the union presented the employer with a proposed deal to resolve all outstanding issues. The employer indicated to the union that proposed deal was not acceptable and it tabled a counter proposal.


Vista Park Lodge (VPL) Negotiations Underway

May 7, 2015

On May 6, the union negotiating committee—Local 832 Secretary-Treasurer Beatrice Bruske, Claudette Chudy and Charlene Desjarlais—met with the VPL bargaining committee to exchange proposals.

VPL came to the table with minimal proposals for this round of bargaining, with the union bringing a larger list of demands that the members brought forward at the February 18 proposal meetings.

The parties will be proceeding with negotiations on June 4 and 5.


Vista Park Lodge Strike Ends

October 15, 2013

Members at Vista Park Lodge voted 97 per cent in favour of a new and improved collective agreement, ending a strike that began on September 14. The committees reached a tentative agreement on October 12 and on October 15, the members said yes to a three-year deal. The new deal ensured all members received a wage increase of 2.5% immediately and it guarantees another 1.25% increase on April 1, 2014. The members also received retroactive pay and a signing bonus­.


Tentative deal reached at Vista Park Lodge strike

On Friday October 11 at 10p.m. a tentative agreement was reached for the UFCW Local 832 members on strike at Vista Park Lodge in Winnipeg. With the assistance of a Labour Board appointed conciliation officer the employer came to the table with a significant enough change on their position to have the union bargaining committee recommend the new deal.

Vista Park Lodge members on strike

On Saturday, September 14, at 7 a.m. Vista Park Lodge members started a legal strike against their employer Extendicare. 

The employees have been without a collective agreement since March 31, 2012. The Manitoba Labour Board assigned a conciliation officer to assist with negotiations but, unfortunately, the company has remained steadfast in its position.


Concessions and wage freezes force Picket line at Vista Park Lodge

On September 9, UFCW Local 832 members working at Vista Park Lodge in Winnipeg voted 100 per cent of rejecting the company’s final offer. A picket line is set to commence this Saturday, September 14, at 7 a.m. Vista Park Lodge is located at the 144 Novavista Drive.
