Canadians are worried about their jobs, their savings and their future. Right now, we need all of our political leaders to work together for the good of the economy and the country. But Stephen Harper wants to put politics first. He has started a political campaign to divide Canadians and attack political leaders rather than work together for the good of the country. He has lost the support he needs to remain prime minister and even cancelled votes in Parliament to avoid defeat. We don't need an election right now. We need an alternative.

Ontario Farm Workers Win Right to Join Union.

-From UFCW National Website, www.ufcw.ca The Ontario Court of Appeal has told the Ontario government to drop its ban on farm unions because it violates the Charter rights of Ontario's more than 100,000 agriculture workers. In a written decision delivered Monday, the court ruled that Ontario's Agricultural Employees Protection Act (AEPA), which currently denies Ontario farm workers the right to unionize, is a violation of Freedom of Association rights guaranteed under the Charter.

Cyrus Lister passes away.

Union representative and Executive Assistant to the President Cyrus Lister lost his battle Wednesday, November 5, to cancer. Cyrus was set to retire this year after 20 years of service for UFCW Local 832. He started his career servicing members in northern Manitoba, but spent the majority of his time in the Winnipeg region. "Cyrus could make anyone laugh and would brighten a room under the most stressful situations," stated UFCW Local 832 President Robert Ziegler. "It didn't matter where you were, if someone found out you were from Local 832, they always asked about Cyrus.

Cheryl Ruston a UFCW Local 832 member has made it to the top 10 on CMT's Karaoke Star program. Her performance airs tonight at 8:00est. (7pm central) on CMT. Cheryl has asked for the members to support her chance at making the finals. After watching her performance you can vote for her on CMT's website: www.cmt.ca Member s can vote as many times as they like,up to 5 days after the show. If Cheryl receives enough votes she'll represent Manitoba at the finals that will be occurring on October 2. Vote early and vote often for Cheryl, Good luck!.

Westfair members vote 98% in favour of strike action.

Extra Foods and Superstore members give negotiation committee strike mandate. After a province wide strike vote, UFCW Local 832 members working for Westfair foods voted 99% to reject the company's offer and 98% in favour of strike action. Negotiations are set to resume on Tuesday, August 26.
