Fairmont Negotiations to Resume in September

July 16, 2018

After a brief delay, negotiations for the renewal of the collective agreement for the members working at the Fairmont Winnipeg will resume in September.

Union negotiator Blake Crothers provide an update as to the status of these negotiations after the September meeting.


Fairmont Negotiations Continue in March

January 31, 2018

The union bargaining committee—Lynn Bandlow, Lisa Barto, Jeff Lesany, Efren Pagaduan, union representative Sandy Forcier and head negotiator Blake Crothers—met with the Fairmont committee on January 30 to exchange proposals. The parties have scheduled March 5 to continue negotiations.

Following that date, negotiator Crothers will provide an update as to the status of these negotiations.


Agreement Reached at Fairmont

September 29, 2014

On September 26, the bargaining committees reached a tentative deal on a new collective agreement for the union members working at the Fairmont Winnipeg. The new Agreement provides improvements to existing wages, benefits and contract language.

The union has scheduled a ratification vote for:
Monday, October 20
9 a.m.  OR  7 p.m.
UFCW Training Centre
880 Portage Avenue, 2nd Floor

Members need to only attend one of the meeting times.


Negotiations With Fairmont Hotel Progressing

April 25, 2014

The union negotiating committee, spearheaded by Marie Buchan,- Lizarosa Angala, Lynn Bandlow, Jeff Lesany, Efren Pagaduan - met with the company during April 22 to April 25. The committees made significant progress and agreed on several non-monetary proposals. Additional bargaining dates have been scheduled in June, August and September.

Both parties are hopeful that a tentative agreement can be reached by sometime in September. The Union will continue to keep the members working at The Fairmont up-to-date of further progress.


Fairmont Hotel members see wages improve with new contract

August 4, 2011

Members vote yes for a three-year deal.

Union members working at The Fairmont Winnipeg said yes by 97 % to a new three-year agreement. On August 3, the union negotiating committee – lead negotiator Bea Bruske, Lynn Bandlow, Efren Pagaduan, Jeff Lesany, Grace Fracz and Lizarose Angala – unanimously recommended acceptance of this deal. Wage increases, for most classifications, total 6.5% over the three  years. A new article provides members with long service recognition and grants employees with 25 years of service to receive an extra bonus week of vacation.

Fairmont workers turn down company’s last offer, vote for strike

On May 24, the UFCW Local 832 members working at The Fairmont hotel in Winnipeg voted 100 per cent to turn down the company’s last offer and voted 96 per cent in favour of a strike. The union held three meetings at various times that day to allow all the workers to hear and vote on the latest offer as well as vote on strike action.

Your union negotiating committee met with the Fairmont negotiating committee on April 13 and 14, and to date the parties have had seven meetings. The union has made significant progress on the non-monetary items, and during the past two days of negotiations we started discussing the monetary proposals. Unfortunately the progress has now stalled due to the very minimal wage increases the employer is proposing.

Fairmont negotiations get underway.

Negotiations for a new collective agreement got underway with your employer on January 25. The parties met for three days to exchange and discuss proposals. Your bargaining committee consisting of Lynn Bandlow, Jeffrey Lesany, Efren Pagaduan, Grace Fracz and Lizarose Angala as well as UFCW Local 832 negotiator, Beatrice Bruske, believe good progress was made. At this time, a large number of non-monetary proposals were resolved.

Fairmont negotiations committee set to meet, start negotiations.

On January 7, 2011 the Fairmont negotiating committee will be meeting to finalize proposals for a new collective agreement. Lynn Bandlow, Efren Pagaduan, Jeff Lesany and Liza Angala along with UFCW Local 832 negotiator Beatrice Bruske will be leading the negotiations. Three dates confirmed with the company starting on January 25-27, 2011, with more to follow.

Negotiations update for Fairmont Hotel members

As you are aware, the collective agreement expires on January 31, 2011.  On November 4, 2010 we held proposal meetings for all union members to review changes that we need to make to your collective agreement.  At the proposal meetings, we also asked members to advise us if they want to serve on the negotiation committee.  Under the Agreement, we are entitled to have up to 4 employees, but only 1 from each department represent members on the committee.  At the meetings, 6 members indicated that they are interested in being on the committee.  They are: Lynn Bandlow (Laundry) Efren Paga
