Tentative agreement reached!

September 26, 2013

After a few sleepless nights and over 70 passes back and forth of proposals the union negotiating committee shook hands with the company on a new tentative deal. Details of the new agreement will be released to the members at an upcoming vote. With Local 832 working with locals 401 in Alberta and 1400 in Saskatchewan, President Traeger will be holding off on ratifying the agreement until the other locals have a chance to get an agreement.

Getting close...

September 26, 2013

A few hours of sleep for the union committee as both sides met again at 9:30am this morning to go over the company's proposal. President Traeger and the committee feel that both sides have moved closer to a tentative deal, but to ensure that there are no 'hiccups' down the road the committee spent extra time pouring over the company's offer.

The committee has broken for lunch while the union's position is typed up. Another update will follow this afternoon.

Back in the huddle!

September 25, 2013

Remember that reference about rollercoasters and negotiations, well pretty spot on. Early morning discussions and honest conversation between both sides seemed like the parties were miles apart. The company returned to the table around 7pm after drafting a response that allowed the union to 'dig into' and work from. There is still lots of outstanding issues, but President Traeger has used the "cautiously optimistic" term  for the first time during these negotiations. Stay tuned as the night progresses.

Talks continue late into the morning

September 25, 2013

After the company presented their comprehensive offer of settlement at 2am, the union negotiating committee spent two hours discussing a response coming to the conclusion that there was too many concessions still on the table to counter. President Traeger returned the company's offer and asked for them to reconsider their position on a number of the items in their settlement offer. The company agreed to return to the table at 9am Wednesday morning.

First complete package offer presented to company

September 24, 2013

Negotiations are a lot like a roller coaster ride, lots of ups and downs. While things had been progressing well and the tone at times almost seemed happy, a chill quickly hit the room when the union presented the first complete package to the company. In an order to get a deal before the company leaves WInnipeg in 36 hours, President Traeger hoped to get to the meat and potatoes of a new deal. (Wages, premiums, benefits, hours etc)

The company has taken a break to work on a response to the unions proposal.

Members give update from the table

September 24, 2013

While President Traeger takes a break from the videos to work on negotiations, Superstore members Vikki Allard, Ken Nickel, Romanda Martens and Maurice Fleury give an update on how they feel negotiations are going.

President Traeger will give an update shortly after the next pass.

Lots of back and forth at the table

September 24, 2013

With the tone remaining respectful and calm, both sides seem committed to finding a deal. Joining the bargaining table today is Norm Nault, President of UFCW Local 1400 who will be negotiating with the company again on Friday.
While there is optimism, wage proposals have not been discussed yet and the heavy lifting is just about to begin. Updates will now becoming more often in order to keep members updated.
