McCain Negotiations

October 4, 2017

The union negotiating committee—lead by negotiator Martin Trudel, John Anderson, Eileen Ball, Julia Coleman and Daniel Udey—has additional bargaining dates scheduled to meet with the employer. Therefore, talks are set for October 10 and 13, November 6 and 7, with further dates in the New Year.

Negotiator Trudel will provide further updates after the October 13 meeting.


McCain Bargaining to Begin in September

During this first round of bargaining, the union negotiating committee will present proposals regarding contract language, benefits and wage increases to the employer in order to make improvements to the existing collective agreement for the members working at McCain Foods. The parties have meetings scheduled for September 11, 12 and 13, as well as October 17 and 18.

Following the completion of the above noted round of bargaining, the union will inform the members of future bargaining dates, if needed, as well as provided with an update on the state of the negotiations process.


McCains members ratify new deal

 After eight days at the bargaining table over a six month period, the negotiating committee presented a new three-year deal to the members, who ratified the deal by 77 per cent.

Nearly 300 Local 832 members employed at McCain Foods in Carberry will receive wage increases of 7.5 per cent under the terms of their new contract

On May 18 and 19, members of UFCW Local 832 employed at McCain Foods in Carberry ratified a new three-year collective agreement by 80 per cent. The three-year agreement sees wage increases of 7.5 per cent. Members will see improvements in vacation entitlements, extended health benefits and severance pay. Members also have better language in their collective agreement regarding layoffs and recall rights, leaves of absence, vacation scheduling and the use of casual employees.
