Workers at Maple Leaf Ratify New Contract

January 12, 2020

Sunday, January 12, 2020 – The room was in cheers as UFCW 832 members working for Maple Leaf voted yes to ratifying their new contract by 89%.

“Our bargaining committee did an outstanding job during negotiations,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “This new contract will directly address many of the issues that our members were concerned about in the plant, and bring meaningful steps towards fixing the culture of the workplace.”

The new contract brings in many improvements including:


Meeting with Maple Leaf management

December 19, 2019

UFCW Local 832 will be meeting with officials from Maple Leaf on January 10, 2020. It’s UFCW 832's hope that we can secure a new fair offer for our members at this meeting.

Following the meeting on January 10, UFCW Local 832 will host a meeting on January 12 to discuss the details of the meeting with the membership and hold a vote.

This will either be a ratification vote or a strike vote, depending on the outcome of the meeting with Maple Leaf.


Workers at Maple Leaf Brandon Reject Tentative Agreement

December 3, 2019

On Monday, December 2, 2019, UFCW members at the Maple Leaf Plant in Brandon voted 65 percent to reject the tentative agreement reached with their employer on November 19. 

The bargaining committee will be working out the next steps in the coming days and will keep our members apprised of any developments. 

The current agreement expires on December 31, at midnight. 

UFCW Local 832 represents 1,900 members at the Brandon pork processing plant.
