Five-Year deal at Canada Bread

October 2, 2015

Faced wtih a final offer from the employer, members at Canada Bread met to go over the terms of the company's offer for a new collective agreement. The new five-year deal was ratified by 92% on Friday, October 2. The members were faced with a potential lock out that was scheduled to start on October 6 at 12:01 am if they did not ratify this offer. With the plant shut down for three hours members listened to the new deal and voted by secret ballot.

As previously posted on September 18, the company notified that it would be locking out the members working at the Canada Bread plant on September 26 should a deal not be reached.


Canada Bread Plant officials serve lockout notice

September 18, 2015

On September 17, after nine days of bargaining over the last five months, company officials served the union with a lockout notice effective September 26 at 12:01a.m.

The union has sent every member a copy of the letter along with other important information. Canada Bread plant members should make sure to check their mail. If you don’t receive anything by Tuesday, September 22, please contact Marie Buchan at the union office.


Negotiations Arise with Canada Bread in May

The union has set its first day of talks with Canada Bread, the new owners of Lucerne Bread, for May 11. However, before UFCW can begin negotiating with the company, it needs to know what improvements and/or changes the members would like to see in their new contract. As such, Local 832 union negotiator Marie Buchan, who will head up this round of bargaining, has scheduled a proposal drop in meeting for April 12 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the union office—1412 Portage Avenue.


Lucerne Bread Plant members ratify new agreement

Members receive wage increases, improvements to health and welfare benefits and other language improvements The members at Lucerne Bread Plant voted 92 per cent in favour of a three year deal on Sunday July 25. The members had taken a strike vote on June 20 to kick start the process. The members will receive a lump sum payment this year along  with 25 cents in the second and third year across the board. The members were also successful to negotiate a 40 cent an hour increase into their pension plan.

Members to hear details on new deal at ratification vote The UFCW Local 832 members working at the Lucerne Bread plant in Winnipeg will have a chance to hear the details of a new deal that was reached on July 14 in the next couple of weeks.

Agreement reached with Lucerne Bread Plant

Ratification vote set for July 25. After a strike vote and more negotiations, the union was successful in reaching a tenative agreement for the members working at Lucerne Bread in Winnipeg. Details of the agreement will be presented to the membership at a ratification vote. The vote will be held on July 25 at7:00pm at the Canad Inn Polo Park. Please make every effort to attend.

Lucerne Bread plant employees vote 90% in favour of strike action

Turn down company's last offer. On Sunday, June 20, UFCW Local 832 members working at Lucerne Bread plant voted to turn down the company's last offer and voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action by 90 per cent. Negotiations have been ongoing since the middle of November of 2009 with nine days of bargaining completed. The union is hoping that the strong strike mandate will bring a tentative agreement when both sides meet again on July 13 to 15. Updates will be posted after those dates.

Strike vote set for Lucerne Bread plant employees

Union asks members to send a strong mandate. UFCW Local 832 representing the employees at Lucerne Bread plant in Winnipeg will be holding a strike vote on June 20 at 7:00pm. Negotiations have stalled and the union wants to send the company a wake-up call. Members are being asked to attend the important strike vote at our UFCW Local 832 Training Centre, 880 Portage and to encourage the company that it's time to negotiate a fair contract for all members.

Lucerne Bread negotiations update meeting

Members to meet at union office May 4. Negotiations with your employer have been ongoing.  The parties have met several times since November 18, 2009 to negotiate a new collective agreement.  However the parties remain a significant distance apart with regard to wage and benefit issues.   To provide you with a detailed update and to review negotiations so far, your union negotiating committee has scheduled the following negotiations update meeting.
