Negotiations Breakdown – Strike Vote Scheduled for members at Sun Gro Horticulture Canada Ltd.

After 5 days of bargaining, it has become apparent that the Company is not serious about reaching a new Collective Agreement.  In an effort to speed up negotiations, your bargaining committee requested the government to appoint a conciliation officer to assist the parties.  On November 12th, we met with the Company and the conciliation officers and little to no progress was made. Your negotiation committee cancelled negotiations for November 13th as well as the dates in December, as the Company does not appear to show an interest in bargaining.

At this time, your bargaining committee believes that it is necessary to have a strike vote to show the Company that we have your support in rejecting their concessions and have your support in achieving an agreement that is fair and reasonable. While we do not want a labour dispute, at this time, it is necessary to show the Company that you support your committee.
