New Deal at General Mills

April 9, 2019

UFCW Local 832 members working at General Mills in Winnipeg ratified a new collective agreement on April 7, 2019.

The members saw improvements to vacation language, job postings and one hundred percent coverage from an expanded list for approved safety footwear. Members will see their wages rise to $1.70 per hour over the next four years. Wage increases were retroactive to November 1, 2018. Also new language was negotiated for an improved process should it change back to ten or tweleve hour shifts.”

“This vote was close, with 54 per cent of members voting in favour of the new deal. It sends a clear message to both the union and the company that the status quo isn’t going to be good enough going forward,” stated Blake Crothers the union negotiator for this deal.

General Mills Canada is a production facility that makes the popular Pizza Pops. UFCW represents approximately 90 members at the Winnipeg plant who do everything from production to shipping.
