Viterra Negotiations Resume Next Month

October 19, 2018

The union negotiating committee, consisting of head negotiator Blake Crothers, Tyler Ledoux, Stephane Lemoine, and Ryan Kenny, met with the company October 3, 4, and 5 to commence the bargaining of their first contract. The tone of negotiations was good and the parties were able to resolve a number of the non-monetary items. Negotiations are scheduled to resume in November.

“We still have a lot of heavy lifting ahead of us,” stated union negotiator Crothers. “There are still proposals that we have not touched on, including the monetary items, which will start to address in the next round of bargaining. We are building this agreement from the ground floor.”

Viterra Inc. is a leading canola processing plant. At the Ste. Agathe plant, they receive seeds and crush them to extract the oil. The oil then goes into many consumer products. There are approximately 45 UFCW members who work at the plant as shipping and receiving to electricians and millwrights. The plant operates around-the-clock, seven days a week.

The union will provide a further update after the November negotiations session.
