New Deals For Office and Production at McKenzie Seeds

August 17, 2018

UFCW Local 832 members working at McKenzie Seeds in the office and in production voted “YES” for a new four-year collective agreement.

The OFFICE workers ratified their new deal by 100 per cent. During the life of this agreement, the office workers will see their wages increase by eight per cent. Also, their dental contributions increased by 2¢ an hour more.

The PRODUCTION workers ratified their new collective agreement by 83 per cent. The production workers will see their wages increase by 8.5 per cent over the four years.

The contract wasn’t set to expire until next April but the company reached out to the union to negotiate early and offer senior members buy outs and to address vacation language in the collective agreement.

Union negotiator Blake Crothers stated, “It’s not every day that an employer wants to begin bargaining a year from the expiry, but the members were in a good position to leverage the company to get a good collective agreement that benefited both sides.”
