Bargaining Underway at Visions of Independence

June 4, 2018

The first round of negotiations is scheduled to begin with Visions of Independence (VOI) on August 8 and 9.

During the first round, the union negotiating committee, led by negotiator Martin Trudel and assisted by Jennifer Buckingham, Christine Funk, Adetola Osifeso, and Mary Wityshyn, will exchange proposals with the employer. The union’s proposals were based on VOI members’ respective suggestions regarding changes to contract language, benefits and wages that they would like to see negotiated into their new collective agreement.

Visions of Independence provides an individual holistic approach to community living for people with disabilities. Its goal is to ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities get the encouragement and support they need to discover their own independence.  UFCW Local 832 members assist supported individuals with day-to-day living in several group homes in several locations in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie.

Union negotiator Martin Trudel will provide an update on the state of these negotiations after the August 9 meeting.
