Arctic Co-op Members Approve New Six-Year Agreement

November 14, 2017

On November 8, UFCW Local 832 members working at Arctic Co-op voted in favour a new six-year agreement.

During the life of the agreement workers’ wages will increase by 13.5 per cent. In addition to the 13.5 per cent wage increases, hourly employees also received a 25¢ per hour pay hike. These increases were retroactive to July 1, 2017. At date of ratification, union members also received a $1,000 lump sum payment.

“The union bargaining committee unanimously recommended acceptance of this agreement,” said lead union negotiator Sonia Taylor.

Other monetary gains include raises to relieving rates and to allowance for winter parka and out-of-town work. The new agreement also contains enhancements to personal leave and new wording for term positions, which is something that the union has been trying to get for many contracts.

The mission of Arctic Co-operatives Limited is to be the vehicle for service to, and co-operation among the multi-purpose co-operative businesses in Canada’s north. UFCW represents the non-management employees, whose jobs vary from mail clerk to merchandise coordinator.
