Employers present package offers April 15

The union met again with all three employers on April 15, to resume negotiations. Shannon Pilon from Conciliation Services was also present. The employers each tabled “final package offers” that included monetary improvements from the last time we met. Unfortunately it still falls short of what other public sector workers have been offered, and fails to address several of the union’s key proposals. In addition, concessions are still on the table. We countered late in the day with a package proposal of our own that we felt we could recommend to the membership, however it was rejected with the employers stating that there were no further monetary increases possible beyond what they had already presented. On April 20, we went to arbitration on the last outstanding department for essential services (Social Work) and are awaiting the arbitrator’s decision. We have no further dates booked. At this point the union is reviewing the last positions of each side.We have also met with representatives from the MGEU and MAHCP bargaining teams. As of April 18, MAHCP has not started monetary discussions, and MGEU has received an offer very similar to ours, and has two more dates of bargaining in early May. We remain in contact and are discussing joint strategies for the Allied Health sector. We will keep you posted as to any further developments in the near future.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please give UFCW Local 832 negotiator, Michelle Masserey a call at 786-5055.
