UFCW Local 832 Members Giving Back
Sharon Grehan, union representative joins members: Matt Johnson, Steve Lebel and Corey Kowalski, employees at the Gimli, Manitoba plant of Diageo as they present a cheque in the amount of $4,000 to Rhonda Powers, Executive Director of Evergreen Basic Needs to thank them for their support to the picket line workers while they were on strike.
Earlier this year, Evergreen Basic Needs (EBN) surprised the members of UFCW Local 832 when they brought hot soups, sandwiches, and coffee to the members who were on the picket line during the strike. This was EBN's way of showing their support for the workers and supporters on the picket line.
The members greatly appreciated the sentiment and decided the only right thing to do is to give back to Evergreen Basic Needs.
They formed a collection that combined money from Unifor Local 3005, CUPE Local 3902, fellow union members from the Diageo plant in Amhursburg Ontario and money from their own pockets to form the $4000 amount that was donated to Evergreen Basic Needs.
“The members greatly appreciated the support during the strike and they wanted to give back to Evergreen Basic Needs so they can continue to do the great work they do.” Said UFCW Local 832 President, Jeff Traeger.
The members would like to extend a sincere thank you to the following people who supported them during their strike:
Don & Debbie Einarson
Manitoba Federation of Labour
Bardal Funeral Home
Unifor Local 3005
CUPE Local 3902
And an extra special thanks to all of the family members who were there to show their love and support.
Thank you all and have a wonderful holiday season.
