Grace Negotiations Have Commenced

Negotiations got underway today for a new collective agreement for the Grace Hospital employees covered by the WRHA Grace Hospital, Diagnostic Services of Manitoba and Pharmacy Program collective agreements. As all three agreements are relatively similar, the parties are bargaining at a common bargaining table. The parties exchanged proposals today and have three additional dates set for this month.  

As you may recall, our proposal meetings were held last spring by Michelle Masserey who had been assigned to bargain this agreement. Due to her unfortunate passing, I have been assigned to negotiate your contract. 

Along with UFCW Local 832 Secretary-Treasurer Beatrice Bruske, the following UFCW members make up your union bargaining committee:

  • Margaret Fowlie – Respiratory Therapy,
  • Tony Nakazato and Tania Altomare – Pharmacy,
  • Shayleen Goretzki – Ultrasound,
  • Marisa Pasquarelli – DSM,
  • Maggie Wallin – Physiotherapy,
  • Tara Roberts – Occupational Therapy,
  • Charlene Epp – Social Work.  

    Please note that they will have alternate members sitting in on negotiations when one of the committee members is unable to attend.

Both parties have extensive sets of proposals. The union proposals that were compiled following the proposal meetings, center on ensuring parity with the other facilities and in some classifications with community health services. This is in addition to language changes and benefit improvements and discussions that your union committee wants to have pertaining to program changes to many of the services and departments at the Grace. The employer is also seeking significant changes in many areas of the agreements. Many of these deal with streamlining and clarifying language issues, however a number also include language changes that are not to our benefit. The parties will be working through these extensive documents and will keep you apprised of our progress.
