New Four-Year Deal Reached at Grace Hospital

August 17, 2007
UFCW Local 832 members at the Grace Hospital, including laboratory employees under Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (DSM) umbrella, ratified a new four-year deal by 82 per cent. All employees covered by the new union agreement will receive a 2.5 per cent wage increase retroactive to April 1, 2006, with a further increase of 2.5 per cent retroactive to April 1. Two more wages hikes of 2.5 per cent and 2. 9 per cent are scheduled for April 1, 2008 and April 1, 2009 respectively. In addition, there are market supplement increases for some groups (lab, diagnostic imaging, respiratory therapy, cardiology and orthopedics). Bereavement leave of up to four working days off with pay shall be granted in the event of the death now includes stepchildren, stepparents, stepsiblings and grandparents-in-law. A new article has been added regarding compassionate care leave, as per new legislation. New language regarding representative workforce and improved wording on job sharing are also part of the union contract that expires March 31, 2010. Check your pay stub – the new wage rates should appear on your pay stub in mid September. However, the retroactive pay will take longer and will be paid in two or three installments. Due to the complex calculations, it is anticipated that will be approximately three months before you receive your back pay.
