New Agreement Reached at Maples IGA

July 31, 2007
On July 31, members of UFCW Local 832 employed at Maples IGA in Winnipeg voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new three-year collective agreement. The new agreement sees strong improvements in wages with a three per cent increase to the start and top rates and 2.5 percent on the rest of the rates. Wages will reach $16.85 an hour for a Sales Service Clerk (cashier) and $19.77 an hour for Bakers, Meat Cutters and Receivers by 2009. Members will also see an increase of paid family time and shoe allowance. “This is a strong agreement for the members at Maples IGA and it sets the tone for upcoming bargaining with the Sobeys Burrows” stated UFCW Local 832 President Robert Ziegler. The IGA banner of grocery stores is under the Sobeys chain. Over 55 UFCW members work at the Maples IGA and almost 100 members work at Burrows.
