Local 832 Training Centre providing career transition services to members who lost their jobs when the Fort Garry Care Centre closed

June 5, 2006
Fort Garry Care Centre, a personal care home, closed its doors displacing approximately 50 Local 832 union members. The Training Centres Career Transition Services has been helping these laid off workers with everything from resume writing to CPR training. Last month a public liaison officer from Human Resource Skills Development Canada attended the Training Centre to assist members with the application process for Employment Insurance. Career Transition Coach Shirley Lamboo will continue to meet with Fort Garry Care members in an effort to assess their needs and in job placement. Through the UFCW Training Centre and other avenues, several members have already found employment elsewhere. The career transition services guide, prepare and empower individuals who have been laid off or are looking for a change. The service is designed to help individuals make informed decisions about their futures and equip them with the information they need to pursue whatever path they choose. If you need assistance or would like more information, please call Shirley at 775-8329 or toll-free at 1-877-775-8329.
