70 Impact Security guards are now members of UFCW Local 832

June 5, 2006
A vote held recently by the Manitoba Labour Board has resulted in the 70 plus employees of Impact Security becoming members of UFCW Local 832. The vote was held on March 24, 2006, but the ballots were not counted until the labour board conducted an audit of how many employees were employed at Impact Security at the time of the vote. "I would like to welcome the employees of Impact Security to our union. They've joined a union that has a strong voice for the security sector and working Manitobans," stated UFCW Local 832 President Robert Ziegler. The local is waiting for the official certification document from the Manitoba Labour Board. Once it has arrived the union can start to schedule negotiation dates with the company. In the meantime the union will be notifying the members of Impact about upcoming proposal meetings so they can let the union negotiator know what they want in their first union collective agreement. UFCW Local 832 was the driving force in strengthening the rights of security guards in Manitoba. It was responsible for lobbying the provincial government to increase the training necessary to be certified in the province as a security guard.
