New Contract Secured at Impact

The security officers from Impact Security Group Inc. voted unanimously in favour of a new three-year contract.

These negotiations were lead by union negotiator Martin Trudel, who said, “This is a good agreement, especially considering the roadblock that the current government put up in regards to revoking the legislation that governs Manitoba’s security guards minimum.”

Agropur Deal Almost Went Sour

Agropur produces Lucerne milk and cream for Safeway, Sobeys and Tim Hortons. UFCW Local 832 represents approximately 40 members work in every aspect of the production, from filling milk jugs, to pasteurizing milk, and even collect milk from the dairy farmers.

The union and the company met in March 2017 to begin bargaining towards a new collective agreement, with more meetings held in May. After a few good meetings, talks started to sour. However, the parties resumed negotiations in September with the assistance of a government-appointed conciliator.

Conciliation Officer Appointed to Assist with Coke Bargaining

After several dates of bargaining, the union and the company are still far apart at the table on some the more significant monetary items regarding the collective agreement for the union members at Coke Winnipeg.

Therefore, negotiations will continue with the assistance of a government-appointed conciliation officer. The mandate of a conciliation officer is to help in reaching terms of a contract that is deemed to be fair and reasonable for both parties.

Red River Co-op Negotiations Reaching a Critical Stage

Up to February 9, the management and the union bargaining committee have spent seven days at the bargaining table since the end of December. The committees have done significant work in resolving many of the non-monetary issues and are now beginning to address monetary issues, including all wage, benefit, vacation, general holiday pay and premium issues.

Negotiations at Faroex Continue February 20

February 8, 2018

The union negotiating committee, comprised of Jeff Lukasik, Jeanne Murray, Sandra Vowles and lead by negotiator Debra Malmquist, met with Faroex during the week of January 23 to begin bargaining for a new collective agreement.

During this set of talks, the parties were able to agree on all non-monetary proposals. Negotiations will continue on February 20, with further dates set in March. Negotiator Malmquist will provide the members at Faroex with additional updates as their negotiations progress.

IKWE Collective Agreement Up for Negotiations

The existing collective agreement for the union members at Ikwe-Widdiitiwin (IKWE) expires on March 31, 2018. IKWE is a crisis shelter for Aboriginal women and children seeking refuge from domestic violence situations.

Union negotiator Sonia Taylor will head up these negotiations and the union has already begun to prepare for bargaining. As part of these preparations, negotiator Taylor has scheduled a proposals meeting for the members at IKWE.
