FASD LIFE’S JOURNEY-OFFICE WORKERS NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE

March 27, 2018

The negotiations of the renewal of the collective agreement for the FASD Life’s Journey-Office Workers is set to continue on April 20.

Union negotiator Martin Trudel said, “I’m pleased to advise that the FASD board of directors has given the agency direction in terms of how the funding is to be used and as such bargaining is now set to resume. The union committee is confident the parties will be able to complete the negotiations process.”

Following the aforementioned date, the union will provide the FASD members with an update as to the status of their negotiations.

Proposal Meetings for Visions of Independance

Your existing Collective Bargaining Agreement expires on June 30, 2018. We have already begun to prepare for negotiations to bargain a new agreement on your behalf.  Part of the preparation process is to obtain your ideas about what improvements should be negotiated into it.  

As such, we will be hosting proposal meetings for you to attend so we can obtain those ideas from you and use them to draft our official proposals to present to your employer once negotiations begin.

Workers at Safeway ratify new contract

March 25, 2018

On Sunday, March 25, 2018, UFCW Local 832 members working at Safeway voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new four-year collective agreement with Sobeys. Thanks to an overwhelming strike mandate, the bargaining committee was able to protect the rights and benefits that Safeway employees have fought for over the years and push back against major concessions.

Workers at Sysco Warehouse ratify new contract

March 22, 2018

On March 22, 2018, UFCW Local 832 members ratified a new deal for workers at Sysco Warehouse. 

The new contract was ratified by 59%, bringing in improvements to wages, benefits, improved language, and addressed Engineered Labour Standard (ELS) concerns.

"There was a lot of back and forth to reach a good deal for the members, but in the end, we got a good contract for the membership," said Blake Crothers, union negotiator.

Sysco Warehouse members work in inventory, warehousing, freezer, and shipping. Local 832 represents over 100 employees at this facility.

Safeway (Sobeys) Bargaining update for March 16, 2018

The bargaining committee has been at the table all day with the employer, there is no update we can give at this time on the progress.

Stay tuned for an update tomorrow when bargaining wraps up.

We would also like to repeat one last time, that there is no strike this Sunday, March 18.  There will be meetings across the province next Sunday, March 25, 2018.

As such, the union is holding ratification vote sessions in order to present this new deal to the members and give them the opportunity to vote on whether or not to accept it.

Tentative Agreement Reach at Lorette Marketplace

March 16, 2018

A tentative agreement has been reached between the parties for a new collective agreement for the members at Lorette Marketplace. The union will be recommending acceptance of this settlement to the members.

Union negotiator Sonia Taylor, who headed up these negotiations, has scheduled a ratification vote for Sunday, April 15. At the meeting, full details of the settlement will be presented prior to the members voting.

A further update will be provided after April 15.
