Dauphin Co-op Negotiations Start Up In March

January 15, 2019

Negotiation talks originally scheduled to begin in October 2018, will take place from March 19 to 22, 2019. Unfortunately, due to the Saskatoon Co-operative strike, which is still ongoing, negotiations were stalled.

Lead union negotiator Sonia Taylor is eager to start bargaining towards a new collective agreement for the UFCW members working at the Dauphin Co-op.

Negotiator Taylor said, “I appreciate the members’ patience and understanding. Following these bargaining sessions, I will provide an update as to the status of these negotiations.”

Members at Westburne Cast Light on a New Deal

In December 2018, the negotiating committees reached a tentative deal for the renewal of a new collective agreement for the union members working at Westburne Electric Supply. Stella’s Sherbrook votes YES to union!

On Friday, December 21, 2018, workers at the Stella's Sherbrook location voted yes to joining UFCW Local 832.

On Thursday, December 20, 2018, voting took place for the employees of Stellas at the Osborne location. UFCW Local 832 is proud to announce that the workers at Stellas Osborne have voted yes in an overwhelming result of 86% to join UFCW Local 832.

New deal for members at AVIS Budget Rental Car

December 14, 2018

On Friday, December 14, the members at AVIS Budget Rental Car ratified a new three-year deal by 93% with improvements to many areas of the collective agreement. 

Minimum wage gap will now have 10¢ spread between rates on the wage scales. Members on the current wage scales will have wages increases from 50¢ to 80¢ retroactive to May 1, 2018, and overscaled employees will have 8.75% wage increases during the three years retroactive to May 1, 2018.

Good Start at Diageo Bargaining Table

December 14, 2018

The negotiating committees met on December 6 for the initial proposals exchange and to start bargaining towards a new collective agreement for the union members working at the Diageo plant in Gimli.

Local 832 Secretary-Treasurer Beatrice Bruske, who is spearheading these negotiations, stated, “Right from the onset, the mood of these negotiations was so different than in past years. The parties had good discussions and we are taking good momentum into the next session of bargaining.”

IKWE Negotiations to Continue in the New Year

December 11, 2018

As previously reported, the negotiating committees for the union and the company met on December 5 to begin bargaining towards a new collective agreement for the members working at IKWE.

Negotiations will continue in the New Year as the parties have scheduled meeting for February 20 and 21, 2019.

Union negotiator Sonia Taylor stated, “The committee is hoping to make significant progress at these upcoming meetings and I will provide a further update to the membership at the February 21st meeting.”

IKWE Negotiations Scheduled for December 5

November 27, 2018

The union negotiating committee, led by Sonia Taylor and assisted by Tara Campbell-Stacey and Sheila Sinclair, will be exchanging proposals with the IKWE committee on December 5, 2018.

The collective agreement for the members working at IKWE expired on March 31, however, the current agreement remains in place until a new agreement has been reached. The union bargaining committee will be requesting retroactive pay on any monetary increases negotiated.

VOI Members Accept New 2-Year Agreement

UFCW Local 832 at Vision of Independence (VOI) ratified a new two-year collective agreement by 85 per cent.

Due to the restrictions caused by the current government’s Wage Enhancement Fund in the non-profit sector, the union bargaining committee had to focus on enhancing various premiums in order to provide financial gains for our members.  Some of these gains include:

Security Guards at SRG Ratify New Agreement

October 24, 2018

UFCW Local 832 union members working at SRG Security Resources Group Inc. ratified a new three-year collective agreement.

During the life of the agreement, the security guards will see their wages increase by 35-cents per hours. The members also receive a one-time lump sum payment in year one of the contract. The new agreement also contains an increase to the safety footwear allowance, as well as additional paid educating and time for site training.
