MNU Negotiations Set to Resumew

The bargaining committees for the Manitoba Nurses' Union (MNU) are set to resume negotiations on September 5, 2018.  Head union negotiator Sonia Taylor has schedule a membership meeting, for after the September 5 session, so that the union can update the members at MNU on the status of their negotiations.

Proposal Meetings set for Integrated Messaging

The Collective Bargaining Agreement for Integrated Messaging expires on December 31, 2018.

Your union has already begun to prepare for negotiations, but we need proposals and your ideas about what improvements should be negotiated into your next collective agreement. To discuss your proposed ideas, we will be hosting proposal meetings, where you can submit and discuss your ideas. We will use your ideas to draft our official proposals to present to your employer.

Tentative Deal Reached at Red River Co-op

August 2, 2018

The negotiating committees meet again on August 1 and 2. As a result, a tentative agreement has been reached.
The union has set a ratification vote for August 21. All of the details of the tentative agreement will be presented to the Red River Co-op members on August 21 for their review and discussion prior to the vote.

Charles (Chuck) McCormick - June 30, 1943 to July 30, 2018

It is with sadness that we report that Charles (Chuck) McCormick, retired union representative passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 30.

Chuck was a graduate of the Canadian Labour College in Montreal and was part of the UFCW team for almost 30 years as a union rep, negotiator, and as a president of UFCW Local 206 in Ontario.

Negotiations Set for Leaf Rapids Co-op

July 31, 2018

Union negotiator Sonia Taylor and bargaining committee member Ervin Bighetty will begin negotiations with the Leaf Rapids Co-op on September 17, and continue talks September 18, 19 and 20.

During these meetings, the union will work towards negotiating improvements to the existing collective agreement for the members working at the Co-op. Negotiator Taylor will provide an update as to the status of negotiations, after the September 20 meeting.
UFCW Local 832 represents approximately 20 employees at the Co-op in Leaf Rapids.

Injunction denied, fight continues

This afternoon the judge informed the Partnership to Defend Public Services (PDPS) that the injunction being taking against the Pallister government’s Bill 28 has been rejected.

"While we are disappointed to hear these results, our main constitutional challenge will continue and UFCW Local 832 along with the rest of the PDPS will continue to fight against Pallisters regressive legislation.” Stated Marie Buchan, executive advisor to the president.

FreshCo deal reached, stores converting

July 19, 2018

Today Sobeys announced to our members, it will be converting the two Safeway stores, located at Kildonan Crossing and Jefferson Ave. to the FreschCo banner.

UFCW Local 832 members will remember from bargaining earlier this year that the company would be opening FreshCo stores in Manitoba to compete in the discount grocery market.  Over the past two months, Sobeys and the UFCW Local 832 FreshCo bargaining committee have been working on a FreschCo appendix to the Safeway province-wide agreement for Manitoba and those negotiations have resulted in today’s announcement.

Fairmont Negotiations to Resume in September

After a brief delay, negotiations for the renewal of the collective agreement for the members working at the Fairmont Winnipeg will resume in September.

Tentative Deal Reached for Gillam Co-op Members

On July 13, the Union and the Co-op bargaining committees reached a tentative deal on the renewal of the collective agreement for the members working at the Gillam Co-op. The Union will be scheduling a ratification meeting in the very near future and will advise the members of the date and time as soon as it is confirmed.

ACL Virden Members Ratify New 2-Year Deal

July 12, 2018

UFCW members working at the Association for Community Living (ACL) in Virden accepted a new two-year collective agreement by 100 per cent.


Due to the government’s refusal to provide funding to ACL, the employees will not be receiving a wage increase in the next two years. For this round of bargaining, the union committee concentrated on needed language clean up and revamped the night shift allocation process.
