Gillam Co-op Negotiations Continuing Next Month

The Union and the Co-op negotiating committees met again during the week of May 28 to continue negotiations towards the renewal of the collective agreement for the members working at the Gillam Co-op.

During this session, the parties resumed talks on the outstanding non-monetary items, which the majority of them have now been dealt with. The parties also provided complete responses on all outstanding items, including the monetary issues.

Negotiations will resume next month on July 11, 12 and 13.

Bargaining Underway at Visions of Independence

The first round of negotiations is scheduled to begin with Visions of Independence (VOI) on August 8 and 9.

During the first round, the union negotiating committee, led by negotiator Martin Trudel and assisted by Jennifer Buckingham, Christine Funk, Adetola Osifeso, and Mary Wityshyn, will exchange proposals with the employer. The union’s proposals were based on VOI members’ respective suggestions regarding changes to contract language, benefits and wages that they would like to see negotiated into their new collective agreement.

Loblaw bargaining begins

Since the start of this year Local 832, has been busy with preparations for bargaining, with Loblaw, between member forums, Steward meetings and a town hall, UFCW has been listening to member's concerns and has been reviewing bargaining proposals.

Yesterday, May 31, the UFCW bargaining committee, led by President Jeff Traeger and Secretary-Treasurer Bea Bruske sat down with the employers to discuss the first rounds of bargaining.

FASD Office Workers give100% Strike Mandate

UFCW Local 832 FASD Life’s Journey Office Workers gave the union negotiating committee an exceptional strong strike mandate.

“Besides the 100 per cent strike mandate, the members also provided us with valuable feedback that we will be able to take back to the bargaining table,” stated lead union negotiator Martin Trudel.

UFCW 832 Welcomes New Members

Workers at the Viterra plant in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba, are the newest members of UFCW Local 832 after a successful organizing drive. The members had recently approached the union voicing their desire to unionize to try and establish a more respectful and fair workplace.

No Deal at the Burntwood Legion in Thompson

May 23, 2018

On April 28, the negotiating committees had reached a tentative deal on the renewal of the collective agreement for the union members working at the Royal Canadian Legion Burntwood River Branch No. 244 (Burntwood Legion). However, the Legion’s executive board did not ratify the proposed agreement and, therefore, there is no deal.

The Union has applied to have a conciliation officer appointed to assist the parties in getting an agreement. Lead union negotiator Sonia Taylor will provide an update once more meeting dates have been scheduled.

Red River Co-op Negotiations Challenging But Continuing

May 23, 2018

Negotiations for the new collective agreement for our members at the Red River Co-op began and then stalled because the chief negotiator for the Co-operative left his position with the company. Negotiations were scheduled to resume on May 22 and 23, with the new head Co-operative negotiator.
