During this first bargaining session, the parties did agree to some of the non-monetary items and had good discussions on several of the other proposals. However, the Co-op has proposed concessions, which the union is not willing to agree to. Therefore, the committees have set further dates, May 28 to 31, to continue...

BCO Members Support New Agreement

April 26, 2018

On April 23, the UFCW members working at the Brandon Community Options (BCO) ratified their new collective agreement by 100 per cent.

It is a 2-year contract, which is in line with all the other non-profit agencies in the Province. The main reason for going with a short-term contract is due to the uncertainty of the affects of Bill 28. The members at BCO did receive an increase to their sick leave and bereavement, as well as a new vacation scheduling timeline.

“We concentrated on cleaning up a lot of the previous language in the agreement,” stated union negotiator Martin...

Red River Co-op Negotiations Lagging

April 20, 2018

Negotiations and the setting of additional meeting dates for the negotiating committees to meet, are proving to be a challenge.

The main reason is that the chief negotiator for the company recently left his position with Federated Co-operatives, which negotiates for the Red River Co-operatives. Therefore his workload, including the Red River Co-op negotiations had to reassigned to another full-time negotiator from Federated Co-op.

In order to allow for this transition, the parties have set May 22 and 23 as the next set of meeting dates to continue bargaining.

Secretary...

Fort La Bosse School Division Negotiations at Standstill

April 19, 2018

With the current government’s Bill 28 still pending, the Fort La Bosse School Division is not interested in negotiating until a decision on Bill 28 is made. Unless, of course, your union agrees to the conditions as outlined in Bill 28, which we are not prepared to do.

Bill 28 shows blatant disregard for the collective bargaining rights of the workers who provide public services to all Manitobans. The union believes that Bill 28 unfair and unconstitutional.

“I have discussed our options with our Legal counsel and they advised that it is better for our members to hold off until...
