Notice to all Group Westco members

Negotiations scheduled for November 3rd were re-scheduled and held on November 6th. The day ended with the union presenting a position, including monetary, to resolve all outstanding items. We are awaiting the company’s response. Northern Meats Meeting Cancelled.

Today's storm has resulted in the ratification meeting being rescheduled. The meeting is now taking place as follows: Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00 PM at the Union office, 1412 Portage Avenue. Negotiations Update for J.C. Foods Members

Negotiations are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, January 9th at the Union office.UFCW negotiator Mary Johnson toured your workplace on November 21st. Although she did not get a chance to speak with you,Mary feels that she is now better able to understand the work you are doing having visually observed some of it. Budget Rent-a-Car Negotiations Update

As you are aware, your union negotiating committee met with your employer on October 17, 2006, in an effort to reach a new collective agreement.  The employer and the union were able to reach agreement on many non-monetary issues.  However, the employer has proposed a regressive wage structure, which would see a wage increase for existing employees, but a drop in the wage rate for all new employees.  This is a big concern for us, as new employees performing the same job as existing ones, will not ever have the opportunity to make the same wages you currently earn. Resource Centre Officially Opens

November 14, 2006

On November 14 local 832 officially opened the new resource centre with a ribbon cutting ceremony. MGEU President Peter Olfert and Bonny Neal director of the MGEU resource centre were on hand along with Manitoba Federation of Labour President Darlene Dziewit, for the ceremony. MFL Convention Concludes

The 50th Anniversary of the MFL Convention went without a hitch this year, and progressed so quickly that the MFL executive was able to pass a motion to conclude the convention a day early because everything was moving faster than expected. The convention on Friday paid tribute to three of the past presidents of the MFL, Wilf Hudson, (father to UFCW union representative Blair Hudson) Susan Hart-Kulbaba (UFCW Director of Negotiations) and Rob Hilliard (UFCW Workers Compensation Advocate). Manitoba Federation of Labour Convention Kicks-Off

November 2, 2006

On November 2nd, the Manitoba Federation of Labour started their four day convention at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. The event got underway early Thursday morning with a passionate speech by Winnipeg Labour Council President Larry Pelzer. Larry talked about how disappointed he was to see that only five of the eight  Winnipeg Labour Council endorsed candidates were elected on October 25. Larry also pledged he would keep re-elected Mayor Sam Katz in his sights to make sure that the mayor doesn't continue to privatize any further city services.
