Bargaining Update for Holiday Inn & Suites

Notice to Security Guards

March 9, 2007

The provincial government now requires security officers to produce a criminal records check and a child abuse registry check to qualify for a licence. Officers requiring a criminal record check will advise by their employer but all guards must provide a child abuse check as it is new this year. Proof that you have applied for these checks will be necessary prior to obtaining your new security licence at the end of March. Agreement Reached at Fairmont Hotel

January 26, 2007

A new agreement has been reached for the members who are employed at the Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg. Specific details of the agreement are not available until both parties are done putting the final agreement together. Members will be notified of an upcoming ratification meeting which should take place in about four to six weeks. At this meeting all of the details regarding the agreement will be given out.

Shop Steward Conference March 1, 2, 3 Postponed.

January 24, 2007

Due to the support staff strike, the shop steward conference that was to be held March 1, 2, 3 has been postponed. If possible, it will be rescheduled in the fall. The shop steward appreciation dinner will be postponed till after the support staff strike. Once a date has been set, all shop stewards will be notified.

Faroex Members Ratify New Deal

January 24, 2007

On January 23, the 68 members employed at Faroex Industries in Gimli Manitoba ratified a new 5 year collective agreement by 80.6%. The new deal negotiated by the local’s secretary-treasurer Jeff Traeger saw great improvements in contract language, wages and benefits. Members will see a 33% wage increase over the life of the agreement along with an over 30% increase in boot allowance and an increase of 45% to their evening / night premium.

Union negotiates higher wages at Brandon facility.

December 19, 2006

UFCW Local 832 is pleased to announce that it has been successful in negotiating a job reclassification agreement with Maple Leaf for the members at the Brandon facility. The reclassification was necessary to reflect the changes that have occurred at the operation since it was built in 1999 and to bring the classifications in-line with wages at other operations in the province. Notice to members at Amber Meadows

Additional negotiations held this month, with the government conciliation officer assisting, failed to result in a collective agreement being reached. There are still a lot of outstanding items including all monetary items. As such, the union applied to the Manitoba Labour Board for first contract imposition. The hearing is scheduled for December 21st (and December 22nd, if necessary) 2006.
