New members Join UFCW Local 832

On February 12 the labour board of Manitoba issued a certificate giving UFCW Local 832 bargaining rights to 18 members employed at PIC Canada who unanimously signed cards to join the union. PIC Canada is located in Malonton, Manitoba in the Interlake area. They have two locations of hog barns a few miles apart that separate the sows from the boards. The members do various jobs such as the artificial insemination of the sows and raising the piglets and mature hogs to be sold to other hog producers. UFCW Canada National President calls on Ontario to follow Manitoba's lead.

The Manitoba government's announcement that this June agricultural workers across the province will have the same workplace protections and standards that have covered most other Manitoba workers since 1957, "is very good news and the Manitoba government should be commended," said Wayne Hanley, the national president of UFCW Canada (United Food and Commercial Workers Canada). Negotiations have started at SYSCO

Your negotiations committee comprised of Todd Jowett, Sandy Barylski, Barry Ambroseychuk, Mike Howden and UFCW negotiator Bea Bruske met with your employer for three days during the week of January 14. Your employer tabled a number of proposals. A number of minor non-monetary issues were resolved. The parties spent time discussing a number of significant issues including overtime, job posting and seniority provisions, and vacation selection. Ratification Date set for Sobey's Burrows

GOOD NEWS AGREEMENT REACHED The Union is pleased to advise that a tentative agreement has been reached with your employer on the renewal of your Collective Agreement.  All outstanding issues were resolved during negotiations that took place between the parties on December 6, 2008.   The new Agreement provides for reasonable improvements to existing wages, benefits and contract language.

Hockey Tournament Deadline Extended

Local 832 will be hosting a hockey tournament on February 2, 2008 at the Sanford Arena. Presently we have room for two more teams. Registration is $250. Granny's Poultry Members Ratify New Three-Year Deal

November 28, 2007

On November 28, UFCW Local 832 members working at Granny's Poultry in Steinbach, MB, ratified a new three-year collective agreement by 82 per cent. The new agreement will see wages increase from $1.29 for a Class 1 worker to $4.00 for Tradesperson rate. The union was successful in negotiating increases to shift premiums, a tool, boot allowance and a signing bonus for the members. With the monetary increases, the negotiation committee also was able to obtain stronger contract language for grievance procedure, vacation carryover, medical certificates, overtime and new member...

Tentative Deal Reached at Granny's Poultry
