UFCW Members Save on Special CBC Performance

April 18, 2007

On May 15, will be the 88th Anniversary of the start of the Winnipeg General Strike. Composer Danny Schur will be presenting songs of the award-winning musical, Strike! This event is a CBC Radio Concert Special, in affiliation with the CBC and MayWorks. The special concert will consist of nine alumni all-star cast singing the songs from the show in front of a live audience at the Burton Cummings Theatre. CLC Roles out Better Choice Campaign

2007 will be a busy year for Manitoban’s as they are poised to hit the poles twice this spring to elect both Provincially and Federally. The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) has started its "Better Choice" campaign. The Better Choice campaign is targeted at the not yet announced Federal election and asks working people five questions based on Jobs, Childcare, Education and Training, Medicare and Pensions. Update at Grace Hospital

Negotiations with your employer have been dragging.  Your committee last met with the employer’s bargaining committee on February 22, 2007.  At this meeting your employer tabled a wage proposal of 2% per year in each year of a three year agreement.  In addition to the wage increase, your employer has proposed market adjustment increases of a one time 1.5% increase effective April 1, 2007, in the following areas: Laboratory, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and Cardiology.  The proposal also includes some increases to the employer and employee pension plan contribution...

Bargaining Update for Holiday Inn & Suites

Notice to Security Guards

March 9, 2007

The provincial government now requires security officers to produce a criminal records check and a child abuse registry check to qualify for a licence. Officers requiring a criminal record check will advise by their employer but all guards must provide a child abuse check as it is new this year. Proof that you have applied for these checks will be necessary prior to obtaining your new security licence at the end of March. Agreement Reached at Fairmont Hotel

January 26, 2007

A new agreement has been reached for the members who are employed at the Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg. Specific details of the agreement are not available until both parties are done putting the final agreement together. Members will be notified of an upcoming ratification meeting which should take place in about four to six weeks. At this meeting all of the details regarding the agreement will be given out.

Shop Steward Conference March 1, 2, 3 Postponed.

Due to the support staff strike, the shop steward conference that was to be held March 1, 2, 3 has been postponed. If possible, it will be rescheduled in the fall. The shop steward appreciation dinner will be postponed till after the support staff strike. Once a date has been set, all shop stewards will be notified.

Faroex Members Ratify New Deal

January 24, 2007

On January 23, the 68 members employed at Faroex Industries in Gimli Manitoba ratified a new 5 year collective agreement by 80.6%. The new deal negotiated by the local’s secretary-treasurer Jeff Traeger saw great improvements in contract language, wages and benefits. Members will see a 33% wage increase over the life of the agreement along with an over 30% increase in boot allowance and an increase of 45% to their evening / night premium.
