Confirmed case of Covid-19 at Maple Leaf in Brandon

Over the long weekend, Maple Leaf informed the Union that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 among a UFCW 832 member working at the plant.

“We hope for a speedy recovery for the Maple Leaf member,” stated Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “This appears to be a contained event, but we will be watching this very closely.”

There are ongoing plans being made for the safety of everyone, and members are being informed as they go to work, but what we know so far:

Versacold and UFCW 832 Want Government Action On Nearby Workplace Explosions

On several occasions, vehicles in a crushing machine at the nearby company, Industrial Metals have exploded, sending metal shrapnel onto the property of VersaCold Logistic Services, where United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 832 members park and eat lunch. Both VersaCold and UFCW 832 are appalled at the Pallister Government’s inaction to provide a safe environment for workers.

HyLife Members Ratify New Collective Agreement

May 31, 2020

Sunday, May 31, 2020 – Over a series of meetings this weekend, UFCW 832 members working at HyLife voted yes by 76% to ratify their new contract.

The bargaining committee worked incredibly hard to get a good agreement for the membership that was fair. The bargaining committee was able to reach a collective agreement that exceeds industry standards and makes improvements in other ways for HyLife members.
