UFCW 832 calls for strike mandate vote against Loblaw

September 15, 2018


UFCW Local 82 is asking for members working at Loblaw stores across Manitoba to give a strong strike mandate to the bargaining committee to send a message to the company.

"Your bargaining committee is extremely disappointed with the offer that was tabled by Loblaw," said President Jeff Traeger. "It's very clear to us at this point that Loblaw is not taking this as seriously as we need them to."

SRG Negotiations Continue September 27

September 10, 2018

At the end of the bargaining session on September 10, the union and the company have one remaining monetary matter. The parties have scheduled September 27 to continue bargaining and should be able to come to a tentative deal.

Union negotiator Martin Trudel will provide the security officers working at SRG Security Resources Group with an update as to the status of their negotiations following the September 27 meeting.

Manitoba Nurses Union Ratification Vote

September 6, 2018

A tentative Agreement has been reached between your union bargaining committee and MNU. Your union is recommending this settlement.

Accordingly, we have scheduled a membership meeting to vote on the settlement as follows:

Back at the table with Loblaw

After a long summer break, your bargaining committee, led by President Jeff Traeger met with Loblaw on August 29th and 30th to discuss the Superstore, Extra Foods and No Frills agreements. Now, we are now in the last month of bargaining where we will be discussing monetary issues, including wages, benefits, pensions and hours.

SRG Bargaining Productive

The union negotiating committee met with SRG Security Resources Group on August 29 to begin talks towards the renewal of the collective agreement for the security guards working at SRG.

“It was a very productive day of bargaining and we were able to settle all non-monetary items as well as some monetary ones,” said head union negotiator Martin Trudel.

New deal for Red River Coop

On Tuesday, August 21, the members working at Red River Coop ratified their first collective agreement under the Red River Co-op banner by 89%.  The new collective agreement is a two and a half year deal, expiring in August of 2020.

The initial contract expired in March, but due to significant financial realities on behalf of Red River Co-op grocery, instead of a strike vote at the time, your union took a different approach to maintain good paying jobs and stability for our members going forward. New Deals For Office and Production at McKenzie Seeds

August 17, 2018

UFCW Local 832 members working at McKenzie Seeds in the office and in production voted “YES” for a new four-year collective agreement.

The OFFICE workers ratified their new deal by 100 per cent. During the life of this agreement, the office workers will see their wages increase by eight per cent. Also, their dental contributions increased by 2¢ an hour more.

The PRODUCTION workers ratified their new collective agreement by 83 per cent. The production workers will see their wages increase by 8.5 per cent over the four years.

VOI Negotiations Productive

August 14, 2018

During the first set of negotiations, the union and Visions of Independence (VOI) bargaining committees were very productive. The parties reached settlements on all non-monetary proposals as well as a few of the monetary items. Talks will continue on September 24.

“I’m pleased with the progress we have made so far,” stated lead union negotiator Martin Trudel. “We will be addressing the remaining monetary proposals with an aim at reaching a deal we can bring back to the membership.”

The bargaining committees for the Manitoba Nurses' Union (MNU) are set to resume negotiations on September 5, 2018.  Head union negotiator Sonia Taylor has schedule a membership meeting, for after the September 5 session, so that the union can update the members at MNU on the status of their negotiations.
