Temporary Closure of Winnipeg Office

March 31, 2020

Dear Member,

Yesterday the Government of Manitoba issued an order that all “non-critical” businesses including Unions must close for a minimum two-week period which means our last office which is still open – 1412 Portage Ave - will close at the end of the day.

As I said in my email to you last week, you can rest assured that your Union is still working hard for all of our members and our staff are still available by email, phone or text message.  Our entire staff are fully equipped to work from home and all of them will be doing so starting on Wednesday.

All of our...

March 30, 2020

First of all, we want to once again thank all workers in the food production, food distribution warehousing, grocery retail, hospitality, security, personal care and assisted living, who are all working so hard on the frontlines of this pandemic.

Your Union has been in constant conversation with your employers to ensure you’re all recognized, appreciated, and your safety is the #1 priority.

Finally, while not everything has gone smoothly or perfectly, we feel we need to take a moment to thank the employers who have stepped up in this extraordinary time. While every employer...

Restaurant and Hospitality Workers hit hard by Covid-19

March 26, 2020

Covid-19 is affecting each industry in a different way. While grocery and food supply chain industries are becoming more and more busy, the hospitality members we represent are dealing with layoffs.

“We call on every employer who is forced layoff workers to look after their employees,” stated Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832.  “The workers who helped to make your businesses successful, deserve your support now more than ever.”

To any UFCW 832 member who has been laid off we encourage you to do two things:

  1. Call your Union Representative...

UFCW 832 Calls for Increased Protections and Wages for Security Guards

March 24, 2020

Security Guards are on the frontlines of this pandemic. They are enforcing physical distancing in public spaces, and they often end up being the first-responder to any incident at workplaces where they are present.

“Security Guards are already some of the most under-appreciated workers we have in our society,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “Security work is already precarious with the employer-client relationship, and wages are constantly suppressed due to high competition.”

UFCW 832 represents over 1700 security guards working at G4S, Garda,...
