Productive bargaining so far with Loblaw

Since Tuesday this week your bargaining committee, led by President Jeff Traeger has been productive.

Both sides have been bargaining since Tuesday this week and today they started into the No Frills agreement.

CDC Members Ratify a New Agreement

On June 19, 2018, UFCW Local 832 union members working at the Carberry Distribution Centre unanimously voted “yes” to accept a new four-year collective agreement.

During the life of the contract, the employees’ wages will increase by eight per cent. The new agreement also includes an increase to the freezer premium as well as to the amount of banked time.

“It’s a good agreement,” stated lead union negotiator Martin Trudel. “We were able to negotiate some necessary cleanup language and more importantly we gave no concessions.”

Red Rive Co-op Negotiations Challenging, to Continue Next Month

June 15, 2018

The Union and the Co-op negotiating committees met on June 11, 12 and 13 for three full days of challenging bargaining. The parties had very open and productive discussions on options that are available to resolve the outstanding issues, which deal with mostly monetary issues. However difficult decisions still need to be made for both bargaining committees.

Negotiations in Motion for Members at Avis Budget Car Rental

June 5, 2018

On May 22, the union met with the employer to commence bargaining towards the renewal of the collective agreement for the members working at Avis Budget Car Rental. At that time, the parties exchanged proposals and persevered bargaining on May 23 and 24.

By the end of that session, the negotiating committees had agreed to some of the non-monetary items and had good discussions on several areas of common concern. Talks are set to continue on July 17 and 18, and the union committee is expecting to make significant process.

Gillam Co-op Negotiations Continuing Next Month

June 5, 2018

The Union and the Co-op negotiating committees met again during the week of May 28 to continue negotiations towards the renewal of the collective agreement for the members working at the Gillam Co-op.

During this session, the parties resumed talks on the outstanding non-monetary items, which the majority of them have now been dealt with. The parties also provided complete responses on all outstanding items, including the monetary issues.

Negotiations will resume next month on July 11, 12 and 13.

Bargaining Underway at Visions of Independence

The first round of negotiations is scheduled to begin with Visions of Independence (VOI) on August 8 and 9.

During the first round, the union negotiating committee, led by negotiator Martin Trudel and assisted by Jennifer Buckingham, Christine Funk, Adetola Osifeso, and Mary Wityshyn, will exchange proposals with the employer. The union’s proposals were based on VOI members’ respective suggestions regarding changes to contract language, benefits and wages that they would like to see negotiated into their new collective agreement.

Loblaw bargaining begins

Since the start of this year Local 832, has been busy with preparations for bargaining, with Loblaw, between member forums, Steward meetings and a town hall, UFCW has been listening to member's concerns and has been reviewing bargaining proposals.

Yesterday, May 31, the UFCW bargaining committee, led by President Jeff Traeger and Secretary-Treasurer Bea Bruske sat down with the employers to discuss the first rounds of bargaining.
